The Business V1.0 ----------------- This program is a simulation of running a small firm making computers. You are in debt and owe your suppliers œ50,000 which must be repaid in 30 weeks. You, as head of the firm, control its future. You buy components, hire or fire staff and decide on the selling price of the finished product. The game is user friendly, prompting you for your action at every stage. When you finish reading these instructions and begin the game, you will be presented with information on the firm. You will see that you have a bank loan of œ1000 and have enough components in stock to make some computers. You will also see the staff level, wages bill, and number of computers in stock. Pressing any key at this screen will bring up the Management Menu. Pressing Escape will bring up a dialog box for quitting the Program. Visit Bank ---------- You can either repay money that you owe, or take out a bigger loan. There is a maximum that the bank will lend you. A bank loan is deducted from your cash in hand when calculating whether you have achieved the sum of œ50,000. You are charged interest of 1% a week on any loan that you have. Change staff levels ------------------- This option allows you to change the number of staff you employ. Each person can make a maximum of two computers a week. The more staff you have, the more you can produce, but the greater your wage bill. Buy components -------------- This option allows you to buy more raw materials to make more computers. Each computer needs three circuit boards, two keyboards, and one case. You have to reflect these ratios in your stock levels. Manufacture and Sell -------------------- This option is used when you are satisfied with the staff and the component levels. You are told how many computers you made that week and what your total costs were. You are then shown the 'market price' for the computers. This is the average selling price for all the computers in that area of the market. If your selling price is higher than the market price you sell few computers; if it is lower you will sell lots. You are given the option to either maintain the current price or change it. On changing the price you will be asked for confirmation. Next you are shown how many computers you sold, and how much you earned. Finally, you are shown your finances over the week and whether you made a profit or a loss. The game ends either when you make the œ50,000 or when your 30 weeks are up, or if you become bankrupt. Installation is extremely simple. Just copy the BUSINESS.APP file into your APP directory and then select Install from the APPS menu. Choose to install BUSINESS.APP. The program runs on both the Series 3 and the Series 3a.
